The McKenzie School District is located in Finn Rock, Oregon, situated in the picturesque McKenzie River Valley, about 35-40 minutes east of Eugene. We are a small, tight knit community, and take pride in the abundant natural resources and recreational opportunities found throughout the valley. In the classroom, we strive to share this with our students via place, project and service based learning models. Staff at McKenzie appreciate working in a smaller environment. With relatively low class sizes (when compared to larger districts in urban areas) that average 15, teachers really get to know students as individuals, and can more easily tailor their instruction to suit learning styles and preferences. In addition, teachers and staff note that they enjoy living in a pristine location (although several commute from Eugene/Springfield).
We enjoy partaking in the many recreational activities the McKenzie River Valley has to offer; including hiking, fishing, drift boating, river rafting, skiing, snow shoeing, foraging, trail running, kayaking, paddle boarding and bird watching, to name a few. Perfect for a person interested in athletics and the outdoors!
It is our hope to inspire and sustain high levels of student achievement through rigorous academic and extracurricular endeavors that utilize the outstanding natural resources and place based learning available through our unique rural community.
